Strongly condemning the cowardly grenade attack on a Punjab Roadways bus by suspected militants at Jammu bus stand, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday directed the State Chief Secretary and DGP to coordinate with their counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure all support to the victims and their families.

The attack, on Punjab Roadways bus No—PB 06 Q 9565 of Pathankot Depot and on way to Amritsar from Jammu, claimed one life and left 33 persons injured. The injured included one person from Punjab—Harjeet Singh of Rai Chak village from Dera Baba Nanak—who sustained injury in his right leg but was out of danger.

The Chief Minister had directed his Chief Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar to get in touch with Harjeet and ensure the best treatment and all possible help for him.

Expressing anguish over the dastardly grenade attack, the Chief Minister said that the attempts of the militants to disturb the peace and harmony in the Valley were highly condemnable and had to be fought by one and all. Their nefarious designs will not be allowed to succeed, said Capt Amarinder.

The Chief Minister extended his sympathies to the family of the deceased, identified as 17-year-old Mohammad Sharik of Haridwar (Uttarkhand).
