Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha and local MP Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday condemned the brutal use of force on the peaceful ETT teachers by police.
The former Chief Minister warned the police officer responsible for lathicharge against abusing his power saying that he will be dealt with firmly according to the law when time comes.Capt Amarinder said, in a strongly worded statement, that the ETT teachers were trying to hold a peaceful demonstration and they should have been allowed to do that. “The particular officer who is leading the police contingent resorted to unprovoked use of force on the peaceful teachers apparently to please his political bosses,” he added.
Amritsar MP assured the victimised ETT teachers that he will ensure that particular officer was brought to book for his brutalities. He disclosed that he was the same officer who was responsible for the killing of a protesting farmer some months ago in Amritsar and he should better have been removed than assigned the sensitive job of dealing with teachers having genuine demands.
“This is extreme of authoritarian behaviour of this government which is using some of its ultra-loyalist police officials to resort to excesses on peaceful demonstrators,” he said while pointing out that peaceful protest is everybody’s democratic right but Akalis were not only denying the same to the people but even gagging their voice.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, in Kharar, said that the SAD government has always been a pro-employee government and the doors of the State Government was open for all employees and an amicable solution of their demands could be found through deliberations.
