Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday demanded imposition of financial emergency in Punjab saying the Reserve Bank of India has refused further overdraft to the State. He said, the situation was going to deteriorate further as the State will not have the money even to meet day to day expenses. Addressing a public meeting at village Vashowa in Ajnala Assembly segment here, he held Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal responsible for the current “sorry” state of affairs. “The State Government had not been able to pay even the salaries of its employees for the last three months. The State coffers are literally empty,” he said.
The former Punjab Chief Minister said, while the Badals were “shameless” as they were busy amassing personal wealth, every Punjabi was ashamed of this situation. “It is unbelievable that a prosperous and progressive State like Punjab, which was at one point of time the top most state in the country in terms of economic and financial growth is now at the threshold of financial emergency,” he said.
