Capt Abhimanyu urges legislators, MPs to contribute in Green Haryana campaign

Published on:

Haryana Forests and Environment Minister Capt Abhimanyu on Wednesday urged all legislators and Members of Parliament in the State to come forward and contribute in ‘Green Haryana’ campaign. In a written communication addressed to them, the Minister said that the future generations would be immensely benefited with this drive to increase forest cover in the State.

He said that the State Government would start a campaign in next three months to inspire and encourage people  to take up  plantation. No work is bigger than plantation. Haryana Government is observing ‘Van Mahotsav’ under which various programmes will be organised in the State, he said. To make it a mass movement, the assistance of public representatives is expected.

He hoped that all public representatives would supplement the efforts of the Government in this direction. The State Government has announced that ‘Van Mahotsav’ would continue for three months and has also urged the people that each family should plant at least one sapling in a year. Out of the total area of 44 lakh hectares of the state, 1.68 lakh hectares are under forest, which is only 3.9 per cent of the total area and a target has been set to increase the forest cover by six per cent and make it 20 per cent in the future in Haryana.
