Former BJP pPresident Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday suggested that all currency notes of Rs 1,000 and 500 should be stopped to control black money and corruption in the country.
Gadkari was speaking in the conference on trade, industries and investors, organised by city BJP, here. Speaking on existing corruption and imbalanced economy of the country, he said party’s proposed vision document ‘India Vision 2025’ is a must for the country. He added that country’s is suffering due to huge corruption, inflation and unstable economy. He said country’s Rs 22 lakh crore are lying in the banks of other countries in the form of black money and CAG has exposed that Rs 4.88 thousand crore’s corruption took place in the country through various scams.
“All these can be controlled if we stop currency notes of Rs 1000 and 500 and abolish all type of taxes except transaction tax”, suggested Gadkari. He said the total revenue of the country is Rs 14 lakh crore and 1.5 lakh bank branches are operating in the country presently.
“If we abolish these taxes and if we apply around 1 or 1.5 per cent of expenditure or transaction tax, then we will get revenue to the tune of around Rs 40,000 lakh crore. So those 3.5 lakh people who are using beacons of various colours now, will not be required anymore as no tribunals or commissioners will be required,” he said. He also suggested that new currency notes should be made of plastic, Jute, fibre and other materials like Australia or England, to check problem of fake currency.
Gadkari also suggested that every Indian can produce electricity from his home. He said there should be solan panel on the roof of every house in India like other countries, it will reduce the demand of electricity at large scale. lambasting the Congress, Gadkari said, “Congress has been ruling the country since 1947 and during its 57-58 years rule, poverty increased manifold and is still there in the country”.
He said that right from Jawahar lal Nehru, Indira Gandi, to Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, all used to say they would remove the poverty from the country during their rule but all had failed. “Now due to parliamentary elections 2014, Rahul Gandhi has started reiterating the same words,” Gadkari said. Targetting Congress for price rise, he said this was due to wrong policies of union government. “In Nasik, farmers sell onions at the cost of merely 50 paisa per kg or Rs 1 per kg, why don’t other states purchase that onion from them at that time and store it for the off season”, asked Gadkari.
