CAG slams GMC Hospital for reserving 7 VIP rooms

Published on:

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has slammed General Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, for reserving higher number of private rooms for VIPs, which it termed as unreasonable in its latest report.

On one hand, patients struggle for getting a room and on the other hand the hospital kept seven out of 44 rooms reserved for VIPs.

To make the matter worse, the CAG in its report stated that the hospital authorities have failed to provide records to specify the number of days patients used the rooms.

The reports says, “Allotment register show only the name of the person who occupied the VIP rooms. All other particulars are missing, which clearly indicates that the rooms have been intentionally misused for some other purpose.”

Meanwhile, the hospital failed to produce any receipts of rent paid by the VIP’s to whom the rooms were allotted, during the course of the audit. The auditing body sought details of the total number of application received during each month of the year (2012-2013) and the number of patients who were allotted the private rooms, wherein these irregularities were found.

Even the waiting-list of patients, who applied for private room, was scrutinised by the auditing body to notice the wrongdoings of the hospital.
