Kiran Choudhry, leader of Haryana Congress legislature Party (ClP), has described the Union Budget for 2016-17 as “one that lacks vision, is directionless and, in sum, a great opportunity lost to de-stress the distressed agrarian sector, lift manufacturing and boost job creation.”
The former Excise and Taxation Minister said the Budget had belied the hopes of the common man. Neither he gets any relief nor any hope for the future, she added.
“People had expected the Finance Minister (FM) to take some long-term steps to contain price rise, boost manufacturing and demand by lowering the tax burden, and generate job opportunities.
The farmers, reeling from the impact of two consecutive droughts, looked forward to immediate relief which is nowhere.
Neither any new MSP formula has been proposed nor any concrete step taken to pull the farm sector out of acute distress. It plays a big joke on farmers. The Budget is indeed a great opportunity lost,” Choudhry said.
