Haryana Government has closed down brick kilns in the national capital Region (NCR) which have not adopted the eco-friendly zig-zag technology.
Such brick kilns have been closed down for the winter period starting from October 1.
“All the Deputy Commissioners of the districts falling in NCR in the state have been asked to send a compliance report of the district concerned and ensure that all the unauthorised brick-kilns have been closed,” said Haryana Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Dheera Khandelwal.
She said that all such brick kilns would be closed by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department during the winter season till March 15.
The Environment Department and State Pollution Control Board are taking concrete steps to prevent and control air pollution in NCR to avoid the repetition of the adverse situations experienced during the last winters. The Central Government had also notified a ‘Grade Response Action Plan’ to combat the air pollution, said Khandewal.
The thick smog hanging over northern parts of the country had caused road fatalities due to poor visibility in November last year.
Notably, the Environmental Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has already directed all the brick kilns in NCR districts which are not meeting the standards as prescribed by Central Pollution Control Board and EPCA, would be closed from October 1 till the winter season is over.
