Under suspension for the past four months, the senior Congress leader Jagmeet Brar is expected to bid his final adieu from the party on Monday after serving it for three-long decades.
Keeping under wraps his “future plans” as of now, Brar has called a press conference on Monday in Chandigarh in which he is expected to make public his decision, and his future plans.
Rumours are that Brar may join the saffron brigade which is riding high on a ‘Modi wave’. However, Brar has indicated that he may not join any political party as of now. Congress high command had placed him under suspension on August 14 on charges of indiscipline. Raising a banner of revolt after Congress resounding defeat in 2014 parliamentary polls, Brar had asked the party’s top leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, to go on sabbatical in the wake of the lok Sabha debacle.
He had also said that all general secretaries should have resigned by now after the Congress’ drubbing, and the party mantle be handed over to a new set of leaders. Brar, keeping his cards close to his chest, maintained that he would give a call to the activists in all political parties including the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Congress who are feeling suffocated due to the domination of dynasties and royalty. Out of power since long, Brar added that before finalising the next step, he would assess the mood of the people in the State. Brar’s claim to fame was his win against Sukhbir Badal from Faridkot lok Sabha constituency in 1999 elections.
