Brar calls for end of feudal & dynastic powers

In an apparent attempt to revive his political fortunes, former Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Saturday said that Punjab would have to finish the rule of feudal and dynastic powers to come out of the present gloomy scenario.

Addressing the first major rally at Chappar Chiri in Mohali, after his expulsion from Congress, Brar trained his guns at both the major traditional parties Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal,

saying that the political opportunism of both these parties was the root cause of all the crises being faced by the people of Punjab.

Amid a gathering of around 12,000 people in the rally which was called ‘Punjab da Mahakumbh’, Brar said that while the State was struggling with problems likes drugs, unemployment, law and order, farming crises, the top leadership was engrossed in getting their share in the rule.

launching a scathing attack on Capt Amarinder Singh, Brar alleged that he had been conniving with the ruling Badal family and had caused a major dent to the prospects of Congress in the next Assembly elections. He said that Capt Amarinder sacrificed the interest of the people of Punjab to keep the Government

silent against him. He reiterated Congress’ withdrawal from Khadoor Sahib bypoll and Captain’s disapproval of CBI probe in drugs trafficking matter as the examples of secret deals between Captain Amarinder Singh and Badal family.

In his hour-long address, Brar cited a number of couplets and teachings of Sikh Gurus to appeal people not to fall a prey to the politics of opportunism and look for political alternatives.

He said that Punjab had struggled to find visionary intelligent leadership and in the absence of political vision, the state, the number one state of the country has been reduced to a state with troubles galore. He said that lack of vision of the leader of Punjab had resulted in causing the farmers to commit suicide and pushed the youth to the trap of drugs.

Exhorting people to find out political options, Brar said that the 2017 assembly elections would not only determine the government of state for the next five years but they will also decide the future direction of Punjab and Punjabiyat.

left alone to show his political clout in the state, Brar though could not manage to gather the claimed crowd of around one lac, but in the company of ex-MlAs like his brother Ripjit Singh Brar, Dr Harbans lal and Vijay Sathi, he put forth an impressive show in the rally with buses from far off districts reached the venue.
