The Chandigarh Administration on Sunday advised the people to book cabs having only yellow commercial number plates through two companies — Ola and Uber. The UT Administration has granted aggregator license to the two companies only — Ola and Uber — to provide the cab services in UT Chandigarh.
UT officials, in an official statement, said that the general people has been advised to book cabs having yellow commercial number plates through these two companies for the safety of the general public and not to book cabs through un-registered app-based aggregator companies.
It is also advised not to travel in a cab or bike having a private number (white plate) which is illegal, failing which strict legal action will be taken against passengers as well as drivers of private vehicles. The panic buttons are also installed in the commercial cabs which can be pressed in an emergency, added the official.
Chandigarh Administration has fixed maximum fare rate for cabs of Rs 34 per kilometer in UT Chandigarh. If any cab operator or company over-charges the fare, the STA office may be contacted on telephone number 0172-2700159 or email sta18-chd@nic.in immediately, said the official.
The official said that in case, any cab operator takes the wrong route or lengthy route, commuters may press the panic button and call police helpline 112 immediately.
