A  live cell of a Rocket launcher was found at a garbage area of Sector-25, Chandigarh on Monday afternoon, triggering a panic amongst the residents of the nearby areas.

The bomb was found lying inside the garbage at Sector-25, when a municipal worker noticed it while he went to take away the garbage from the area. Police was informed. A team of Chandigarh police, bomb squad and sniffer dogs reached the spot to scrutinise the bomb.

After deliberation, police decided not to defuse the bomb on its own and informed the Army authorities. The army team came from Chandimandir which took the explosive away.

The Station House Officer  of Sector-11 Police Station, Gurmukh Singh said that the explosive was about 3.5 kg in weight and could have damaged a vast area if it had exploded. “The explosive has been handed over to the army which will now defuse it appropriately,” added the SHO.

Earlier in January 3, an explosive was also found lying near the jungle area in colony 5, which was nearly 12 inch broad, 20-inch long and weighed over 10 kg. It also had a possibility of damaging an area in a radius of around three kilometers.
