Bokaro Steel's 'literate to matriculate' scheme pays-off

Bokaro Steel Plant (BSl) has been successful in its endeavour to give wings to the aspirations of its many non-matriculate employees by helping them clear the matriculation examination.

BSl’s unique scheme of 'literate to Matriculate’ under the Open Schooling System proved to be beneficial for those who could not continue their studies for some reason.

“This year, 43 employees from various departments of BSl had enrolled under the Open Schooling System. Out of them, 23 employees successfully cleared the examination by dint of their hard work, enthusiasm and support from BSl management”, said a BSl PR official.

A felicitation ceremony was held at the HRD Centre in which the visibly beaming successful candidates were handed-over their certificates by senior officers of the HRD Department.

BSl embarked on this unique initiative in 2013 by encouraging non-matriculate employees to join hands in their effort. BSl helped them not only with the registration but also provided partial re-imbursement of registration and examination fee of successful candidates, he said.

Regular classes were held at the HRD complex after office hours and guidance was provided to them by teachers of BSl run schools and some other BSl employees. Over the years, a total of 79 out of 138 employees who enrolled for the scheme have successfully cleared matriculation examination. Enthused by the overwhelming response of employees, BSl is hopeful of helping many other such employees get their matriculation degree.
