Bharti Kisan Union (BKU), led by former MP Bhupinder Singh Mann, on Monday announced support to the Congress party in run up to the next year’s Punjab Assembly polls.
The decision was taken by the BKU at its meeting of office bearers which was specially attended by Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder SIngh, said BKU national president Mann. Describing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a “Chinese toy”, Mann quipped, “People had lot of excitement for six months about AAP, but now it had withered out like a poor quality Chinese toy.”
The former MP Mann and BKU Punjab unit head Baldev Singh Mianpur thanked Capt Amarinder for reaching out to the farmers’ body and listen to the views of farmer leaders and also put across the agenda of Congress for the agriculture sector. BKU rejected the SAD-BJP alliance for allegedly pushing Punjab to the brink of social and economic slide.
“Be it drugs, unprecedented farm crisis, lawlessness, unemployment, the Akali government in Punjab has failed to deliver,” Mann said while demanding a corruption-free regime, having quality education in government schools, protection of honour of womenfolk, and trade.
Mann said that BKU office bearers raised many issues to Capt Amarinder, including the proposed debt waiver when Congress comes to power, and he had assured the farmers’ body that all loans of farmers will be waived. “He also outlined the roadmap to this huge task. He also assured that free power to farmers will continue. He also assured that he will ensure rule of land,” he said.
Mann assured that BKU will ensure Capt Amarinder government in 2017 and we will leave no stone unturned to overthrow the “corrupt anti-farmer regime”.
