BKU announces Statewide protest

A group of farmers under the banners of Kisan Sabha and Bhartiya Kisan Union (A) has decided to launch a Statewide protest against Haryana Government for its alleged failure to provide succour to the farmers.

The BKU has decided to organize ‘Tractor Yatra’ across Haryana covering various districts to protest against the Haryana Government and putting forth their various demands.

Talking to The Pioneer, Haryana BKU (A) chief Shamsher Singh Dahiya said that to protest against the Haryana Government, BKU has decided to start ‘Tractor Yatra’ in August to cover various districts of the state.

The protest yatra which would cover various districts of the state would culminate at Chandigarh where we will meet the Chief Minister to put forth various demands of the farmers, said he.

The first of its kind ‘Tractor Yatra’ by BKU in Haryana also aimed at meeting farmers across the state and identifying various problems faced by the farmers. During the Yatra, the BKU would also held protests at Deputy Commissioners’ office and submit a memorandum regarding their demands.

Criticising the BJP Government, Dahiya said that BJP has betrayed the farmers as before the election they had made many promises but nothing has been done for the farmers yet. The BJP which had promised to implement the Swaminanthan report has not done anything in the regard and seems to be going back on its promises.

The Union is demanding to waive off loans of agricultural labourers, a separate Ayog for the farmers, bring agriculture under the purview of the MGNREGA, waive off farmers  power bills, release pending payment from sugar mills, release adequate compensation amount to the farmers whose land were affected during March and April rainfall, said he.

He added that the compensation given by the Haryana Government for crop losses due to untimely rainfall and hailstorm were too little.

Referring to Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar, he alleged that before coming in power the BJP used to talk about farmers welfare but now is making insensitive comments.

The BKU has also threatened to launch a nation-wide stir in October, if they were not met.
