The Bharatiya Janata Party has called its core group meeting at Haryana headquarters in Rohtak on May 23, to gear up for the upcoming Assembly elections in the State. The party is basking in the glory of their thumping victory in the State where it bagged seven out of the 10 Parliamentary seats in the general elections with its workers in a jubilant mood. All the seven MPs, elected in the recently concluded lok Sabha elections are going to take part in the meeting, which will be chaired by State BJP president Ram Bilas Sharma to gear up for the upcoming Assembly elections so that the lok Sabha results can be replicated, said Vir Kumar Yadav, spokesman of the BJP.
This meeting is being considered crucial for the State leadership, especially keeping in view the upcoming Assembly elections as the party will have to field 90 candidates to contest from various seats.
With the ruling Congress party already on the back foot after retaining only one Assembly seat, BJP is banking on the Modi wave to turn the results in their favor to form the next Government.
“It is the first meeting of State BJP’s leadership, after recent lok Sabha elections to analyse the recent elections and set the future course of action of the party in the State”, said Yadav.
However speculations are rife that the meeting may see turmoil over party’s alliance with the HJC, which showed a very dismal performance in the lok Sabha elections. Many State leaders are apprehensive about Kuldeep Bishnoi’s performance in the upcoming elections, who failed to impress in the general elections and hence, they are against the alliance. Meanwhile, Bishnoi after loosing his foothold in the recently concluded elections met the political stalwarts of the party in Delhi on May 20, including BJP president Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi, to come clear over his position in the face of a humiliating defeat and to continue the alliance in the state.
Under these circumstances, the State BJP leadership may have to face internal resistance in the meeting.
Jagdish Mukhi, in-charge of BJP in Haryana, Anil Jain and Suresh Bhatt, organisational secretaries of State BJP will also attend the meeting on May 23.
According to sources, the BJP high command doesn’t want to disappoint its State leaders over the alliance with HJC and on the other hand, BJP’s ally in Punjab-SAD has already been trying to increase the party’s proximity with INlD, given which the BJP-HJC alliance is laying in a limbo at the moment.
