Chandigarh BJP is all set to fight legal battle on the issue of grant of voting rights to nine nominated councilors in the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh. Raising the issue, BJP national secretary and Chandigarh in-charge Aarti Mehra on Sunday termed it as the ‘murder of democracy’ in the MCC.
She said, “The granting of voting rights to as many as nine nominated councilors with only 26 elected councilors is completely against the very institution of democracy. The spirit behind having nominated councilors was to have unaligned doyens from multifarious domains who would provide their expertise for the betterment of the city. However, it is regretted that several of them have only their Congress credentials as their claim to fame.”
“BJP has prepared a complete legal document on this anomaly and after consulting legal constitutional experts, will move the appropriate forum for judicial remedy and providing justice to the citizens of Chandigarh,” she added.
On the issue of Rail Board Bribery Scam, she reiterated the party’s demand for a fair and time bound enquiry which will bring the perpetrators of this scam to book. She said, “The UPA Government was a complete failure on all fronts including economic, internal and external security and even on morality in public offices. BJP will continue to oppose this failed regime and is the only viable alternative to put the country and its prestige back on track.”
Mehra added that she alongwith the national secretary Kirit Somaiya and the members of the ‘Pawan Bansal Scam Expose Committee’ headed by city party president Sanjay Tandon and senior leader Satya Pal Jain will submit their report to the CBI at Delhi soon. Over the last two days, she held extensive meetings with all party leaders.
