Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to hold bilateral talks with its “estranged” legislator.
Even as the first time MlA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu is going public highlighting the ailing party leadership and discrimination against saffron brigade by its ally — Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the party has decided to call the motormouth leader at the party head office in Chandigarh.
“As of now, the general secretary in-charge of the Majha area has been asked to get in touch with her….I would also personally meet her…she will be called here in Chandigarh at party head office,” Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma told The Pioneer on Friday.
Sharma has also made it clear that being a party leader and the people’s representative, she has every right to meet the BJP national president Rajnath Singh.
“There is nothing like surpassing me or else…she is the MlA of the party, and has every right to meet the national president,” he added.
Sidhu has stated that she had got an appointment with the party’s national president and she would soon meet him to put in plain words about the party’s condition in the political alliance in Punjab.
At the same time, Sharma refused to comment any further on the issue till the time he personally get in touch with the “upset” leader.
“Concerned leader, Rakesh Rathore has spoken to her and till the time I interact with her, I have nothing to say on the issue,” he said, smilingly.
Sidhu’s recent outburst was being interpreted as attempts to look for an honourable exit for herself and her husband Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu by the SAD-BJP leadership
On the same, Sharma refused to comment. He also passed up the queries regarding her flare-ups amounting to indiscipline, and her allegation on Sharma’s functioning and weak state party leadership.
Only recently, she had created a flutter by claiming that her cricketer-turned-politician husband would not contest elections when it was almost clear that he was not the obvious choice for the Amritsar constituency for the impending parliamentary polls.
During the previous polls also, Sidhu had barely managed to win with a margin of just 7000 votes.
“He was hardly seen in his constituency, and remained busy in minting money. It has been heard that he is planning to try his luck from Delhi. It may be possible as his previous margin in 2009 polls was quite low…It seems that the Sidhu couple might have anticipated that he will not get the ticket this time, as he was also thrown out of national body by Rajnath Singh (BJP national president)…this is just an attempt to cover up things,” a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity said.
Notably, State party chief Sharma had time and again, been maintaining that Sidhu would be the party’s candidate from Amritsar constituency.
Also the Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Sidhu targeted her outburst at her own state party leadership maintaining that the BJP was made to play second fiddle to its alliance partner in the wake of weak leadership.
She had maintained that the BJP’s constituencies are being neglected only because of “poor” state party leadership, rather than finding fault with the SAD.
lashing at state party president, she asserted that Sharma has been failed in asserting himself and defending the party MlAs and colleagues.
Despite repeated attempts, Dr Sidhu could not be contacted who was busy in touring the flood-affected villages in Ferozepur.
