Himachal Pradesh BJP has decided to hold parliamentary constituency meets to get the feedback for probable candidates for 2014 general polls and finalise the panel of names, which will be sent to central election committee for final call.
The State Congress has recently concluded such meets and has taken feedback from grassroot party workers about the candidates and things to be done to win respective seats. Now, BJP also plans to hold similar meets as it had announced that names of the candidates are likely to be announced by December end.
Sources said that in the next 15 days, meeting will be completed for three parliamentary constituencies while for Shimla parliamentary seat, the meeting will be held after the Assembly elections in five States are over.
The reason for indecision on schedule of Shimla parliamentary seat meeting was due to absence of constituency in-charge Rajeev Bindal who has been deputed by the party in Delhi for election duty. “Once Bindal returns back from election duty of the party, he will hold Shimla parliamentary constituency meets of party workers,” said a senior office bearer of the party.
Congress parliamentary constituency meets have been termed as largely successful as party workers were allowed to voice their views without any restriction and now BJP wants to hear the party workers right from the grass root level to retain its seats. The BJP has currently three parliamentary seats in its kitty while Congress has only one. “The reason for such meets is to hear the voice of party workers who are working at the grassroot level and based on feedback, a panel of names will be made and sent to central leadership,” said BJP spokesperson Ganesh Dutt.
He said that party workers from block level to district level and to State level, all will attend their respective parliamentary constituency meets which will be held in different parliamentary constituency itself instead of at Shimla.
