Preparing for the final examination in the ensuing parliamentary polls, the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come out with a time table.
The party has clearly chalked out the details of the programmes or schemes it plans to carry out during the months before the general elections.
Right from February to March, the saffron party has its hands full with workers’ meet across the State especially three lok Sabha constituencies the party contest, preparation for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally, national party programmes, besides the grass root level meetings across State.
“We have chalked out the entire programme to mobilise the party cadre, telling people about the party’s achievements and works, besides the failure of the Congress,” State BJP president Kamal Sharma told The Pioneer.
As per the outlined schedule, the party would be holding workers’ meeting in all the 23 Vidhan Sabha segments covered by the BJP. “To begin with, workers’ meet and conferences would be held in the three lok Sabha seats which we represent — Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur,” said Sharma.
He added that after covering these three constituencies thoroughly, rest of the 10 lok Sabha constituency, contested by the alliance partner — Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) — “would also be covered in the similar way”.
“We have initiated this programme of holding workers’ meeting and conferences from February 8, and it would continue till February 17. Simultaneously, the BJP cadre is also actively participating in party’s national programme of collecting iron, soil and water for the ‘Statue of Unity’ which would be continued till last week of February,” added a senior BJP leader.
For the next week, from February 17 to 23, the party would prepare vigorously for the Modi’s ‘Fateh Rally’ in Jagraon on February 23. Aiming to make the rally the biggest of all times, the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, and Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma have covered all districts by meeting party workers of both the parties.
“In all four worker-level meetings have been conducted from February 12 to 14 in which office-bearers and workers of both the parties have participated and they were assigned duties,” said the BJP leader adding that two meetings were conducted on Friday at the rally’s venue in Jagraon and another at Jalandhar.
After the February 23 rally, the party would start its national-level programme — Ek Note, Kamal Par Vote — from March 1 till March 15.
During this fortnight long party’s national campaign, the saffron brigade would go from house-to-house seeking votes and notes from the people with the dual aim of establishing personal contact with the people by going door-to-door and generating funds to meet election expenses.
“The party workers would go down to the booth level and seek voluntary contributions from the public besides their commitment to vote for the BJP to make Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the next Prime Minister of the country,” said the state party chief Sharma.
Giving further details, Sharma said that from March 16 onwards, the party would hold district and booth level conventions, besides the meetings of party’s all cells and morchas would also take place and they all would be in field to mobilise people.
“By March, it is expected that the Election Commission would declare the elections, and with elections just about a month away, that was the time to mobilise people, and feed in maximum information in them,” said Sharma.
The BJP in Punjab has a total of 36 frontal organisations — cells or morchas — cpvering different sections of the society, including women wing, kisan morcha, yuva morcha, SC morcha, minority morcha, media cell, economic cell, medical cell, trade cell, legal cell and so on.
