Punjab unit of the BJP will hold its State executive committee meeting today in Hoshiarpur. Jagraon rally by party’s prime ministerial candidate  Narendra Modi on February 23 is expected to be the main focus of the meting, besides discussions on the ways to make BJP’s Mission 272-plus for lok Sabha elections a great success.

Among other things, the meeting would also pass a resolution on the current State of political affairs in the country.

“It is a custom that after the national executive meeting, the State also holds its State executive committee meeting. Mainly, the decision taken and guidelines given in the national meeting would be implemented here included series of programmes in the wake of general elections,” Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma told The Pioneer.

He said, “The preparations regarding Modi’s rally would also be reviewed, including the party’s ongoing programme of collecting iron and soil from across the state’s villages for the Statue of Unity, preparations for the 2014 elections, and other routine level programmes at booth level. “The party’s central unit has fixed the target of 272-plus seats during the coming lok Sabha elections and Punjab will contribute all the 13 seats,” he said adding that the names of candidates have yet not been decided.

While Sharma still supported the candidature of former cricketer and party’s three-time MP Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar, he remained evasive on fielding the party’s new entrant, popular Punjabi singer Miss Pooja from Hoshiarpur.

“It is the Central unit to decide, and we will support whoever they choose,” said Sharma.
