BJP MP softens stand on Jat reservation issue

After threatening to resign from Parliament if the Jat community is given reservation by the Government, BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini seems to have softened his stand on the issue.

Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini on Wednesday said that he has never expressed any contempt against reservation to Jats but reservation should go to those who are under privileged and deserve it.

Warning BJP against any tempering with the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs, the MP said that if the reservation for OBC is played with, it will bring the same results for the BJP, what it has brought for Congress.

Notably, the BJP MP had earlier this year threatened to resign from his post if Jats are given reservation.

Addressing mediapersons in a meet the Press programme at Chandigarh Press Club on Wednesday, Saini gave Manohar lal Khattar led Haryana Government, 5 out of 10 points for its performance. He said that the State Government has taken big initiatives to bring transparency in governance and 24 hour power supply but the results are yet to come.

The Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations expected to be submitted in the near future also came under criticism by BJP MP.

Mincing no words to criticise the ever increasing expectations of Government employees regarding their salaries and facilities, Saini warned NDA that the recommendations to be made by the Pay Commission may play havoc by increasing the financial gap between the Government sector employees and those who are employed elsewhere or contract workers.

Advising his own party not to follow the beaten track, Saini said that the recommendations of Pay Commission will require a prudent approach. he said that the Government needs to concentrate more on those 97 per cent people, who are not employed in Government sector.

On the question of bringing pay scales in Haryana at par with that of Punjab, he said that Government employees, who find their pay scales less, should find jobs where they get better pay scales. He added that the 8 lakh application for 5000 constables recruitment in Haryana is a glaring example that how people want to get a Government job.
