Criticizing Uttar Pradesh Government for arresting people of Sant Samaj and Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia, Punjab unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party Kamal Sharma on Sunday said that the Chaurasi Kaosi Parikrama Yatra “is a sacred religious ritual for Hindus and it is far above cheap politics performed by UP Government”.

“Every person or a group, as per the Constitution, has right to go for peaceful yatra or procession and Hindu Sant Samaj was just doing that. To appease a particular community for vote politics, UP Government obstructed this yatra,” he added. Sharma said: “Ayodhya is a sacred religious place for Hindus and faith of every Hindu is connected to Bhagwan Rama. The Government must respect the sentiments of Sant Samaj,” he added. Reacting to the statement made by some political leaders that it is not the appropriate time for such parikrama as per Hindu mythology, Sharma said: “It is the prerogative of a religious leaders or Sant Samaj to decide about the timings of such religious activities. Politicians are not authorised to decide on such issues and they should not.”
