BJP gave a new dimension to politics in Chandigarh: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has changed the face of politics in Chandigarh during the last five years.

“Now elections are being contested in the name of development done by BJP,” the Chief Minister said while addressing an election rally in Sector-39 in support of party candidate Ravinder Rawat from ward number 27. Earlier, Khattar addressed public meetings in support of party candidates Savita Gupta from ward number 4; Nitika Gupta, party candidate from ward number 5; Sarabjit Kaur, candidate from ward number 6 and in support of party candidate Usha from ward number 16.

He said that there was a time when Chandigarh and its Corporation were remembered only for scams, but ever since the BJP government has come to the Centre and Chandigarh, only development is being talked about here. He said that the government with ‘double engine’ has given impetus to the development in Chandigarh. To maintain this momentum, the people of Chandigarh are ready to elect BJP once again, he said. Khattar said that this Municipal election will work as a testimony on the development works done during the tenure of BJP. As soon as the elections were announced, there was panic among the opponents, he said, adding, many independents have joined the BJP, and by the time the elections come closer, candidates of many political parties will also withdraw from their candidatures in support of the BJP.

He further said that BJP fights elections, with the same seriousness as it prepares development plans and implements them on the ground.

Referring to the Centre's Ujjwala scheme, Ayushman Bharat scheme and many other schemes, Khattar said that the residents of Chandigarh have benefited from all the schemes of the Centre. Notably, the Congress, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are locked in a three-cornered fight in the polls. The MC elections will be held on December 24 and counting of votes will take place on December 27.

The union territory of Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.
