BJP: Forget Punjab, Capt failed to head even Cong

Taking a jibe on the Congress party’s new slogan ‘Chahunda Hai Punjab, Captain Di Sarkar’, Punjab BJP’s former president and party’s national executive member Kamal Sharma on Sunday said that not Punjab, but the State Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh had even failed to become “captain of Congress”.

“Punjab wich koi aisi party di sarkar nahi chahunda jis party wich leader ek dujje naal sareaam maar kutayi karan te paga hawa wich uchallan (No one in Punjab want a government of a political party in which leaders indulge in scuffle publically and turbans are tossed),” said Sharma while referring to Saturday’s incident wherein the Congress leaders entered into a physical brawl at party's state level dharna in lambi.

Sharma, reiterating that SAD-BJP alliance would register a historic win in Punjab to make a hat-trick of victories in state assembly election, said that PPCC president Capt Amarinder “miserably failed to keep his flock together”.

“He can't even become a successful ‘Captain of Congress’ and ironically his poll strategist Prashant Kishor has created a superficial hype of Amarinder by tagging him as ‘Punjab Da Captain’. Amarinder is day-dreaming of coming to power, which would break once Congress is decimated in the next Punjab elections, schedule to be held early next year,” said Sharma.

BJP leader pointed out that lambi scuffle was not an isolated incident of “factionalism” prevailing in Punjab Congress. “Even, during the Congress state-level dharna at Dinanagar (Gurdaspur) on June 8, Congress MlA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had slapped a Congress Sewa Dal leader IS Gulati in full public view, including party leadership,” he added.

Sharma said that these incidents were clear reflection of groupism and gross indiscipline prevailing in the state Congress. “When Amarinder cannot curtail such things, how can anyone expect him of taking the party, anywhere near to the victory in the state elections,” said Sharma.

Reacting to Congress’ demand from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of a special economic package for Punjab, Kamal Sharma said that Congress should first tell the people of Punjab that what Capt Amarinder has done for Amritsar as a Member of Parliament.

“What to talk of doing anything good for Amritsar, Amarinder rarely pays a visit to his parliamentary constituency,” said Sharma while advising Amritsar MP to at least perform his duties, as a member of lok Sabha.
