Chandigarh BJP on Friday demanded that the officials responsible for monitoring Mid-day meal should be held responsible for any damage to the health of the children and in case of unfortunate fatal incident, those should be tried for unintentional homicide, not amounting to murder under IPC 304.
The BJP leaders said the local Member of Parliament should also take all the moral responsibilities of such shocking incidents. A day after insects were found in the Mid-day meal of the Government High School in Industrial Area-Phase I here, the city BJP has suggested any food chain requires three stages — procurement, preparation and distribution and all these stages require strict supervision and that can only be done if there is a political will.
In a statement issued the party said almost all the government welfare schemes targeting the development of the poorest of poor have met with miserable results as was the case with mid day meal scheme.
A large number of BJP workers alongwith city residents had on Thursday protested against the UT Administration at the Govt High School in Industrial Area-I here where insects were found in the mid-day meal.
