BJP election strategy in place for Punjab

Published on:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday put in place its strategy for 2017 Punjab assembly polls. The saffron party not only decided to gear up for the elections at the grass root level, but also to drive home the message of its achievements among the masses before the crucial elections.

Holding back-to-back meetings, the party has decided to hold constituency-wise meetings headed by its national election in-charge Narinder Singh Tomar, from December 9 to 15 following which a comprehensive report would be sent to the party high command regarding BJP’s prospects in the ensuing polls.

Besides, the various wings or morchas of the saffron brigade would organise rallies or sammelans from December 18 to 24.

To give a further push, the party would also organise Vijay Sanklap Yatra to highlight the achievements of SAD-BJP led Punjab Government and BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre among the people of the state.

However, the party does not seem to be in hurry to announce its candidates even as its alliance partner, the SAD, has announced the candidates of 82 constituencies, out of total 94 in its share. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also announced 98 candidates so far for 117-member Punjab assembly polls.

Main opposition, the Congress party, is yet to declare any name but is expected to release the list by December 11.

“We have decided that the list of party candidates for the upcoming Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections would be announced in December last,” a senior BJP leader told The Pioneer.

The party, in its core group meeting headed led by Union Minister and Punjab BJP chief Vijay Sampla, has decided that party’s state election in-charge and BJP MP from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh Narinder Singh Tomar would visit different constituencies to meet party workers.

“As per the programme, Tomar would visit constituencies of Amritsar and Jalandhar on December 9, and hold meetings with the workers, followed by more meetings on December 14 and 15 in ludhiana and Pathankot assembly constituencies. And after on December 16, a report would be submitted to the BJP High Command,” said the BJP leader.

Another meeting of state office-bearers, 23 constituency in-charges, heads of various morchas, district presidents, district prabharis, halqa in-charge, was also held at the party headquarters.

“We have decided that from December 18 to 24 rallies and sammelens would be organised in the state by party’s different morcha regarding upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections,” said the leader.

As per the programme, Yuva Morcha would held its progranme on December 18 at ludhiana, Mahila Morcha on December 20 at Pathankot, Kisan Morcha on December 23 at Fazilka, SC Morcha on December 24 at Jalandhar, Minority Morcha on December 24 at Mukerian.

“After this programmes, a Vijay Sanklap Yatra would be orgainsed,” the leader added.

The birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpai would also be celebrated on December 25.
