Chandigarh BJP on Monday demanded that the UT Administration roll back the proposed hike in the power tariff in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
In a meeting of senior party leaders held on Monday under the leadership of Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon, the party decided to submit a memorandum to Adviser to UT Administrator demanding roll back of proposed power tariff hike in the city.
The party has also decided to protest against the UT Administration if the proposed power tariff hike is not rolled back. The UT Electricity Department has filed its annual revenue requirement projections with the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), proposing a power tariff hike of up to 21 percent for the next financial year 2014-15 starting April 1, 2014.
Projecting the total revenue gap of Rs 156 crore, the UT Electricity Department had filed the petition with the JERC for a power tariff hike.
Condemning the proposed hike, the BJP said that at the time when other state government has announced no power tariff hike for next financial year, the UT Administration has proposed a hike of upto 21 percent in tariffs.
The BJP leaders also alleged that due to its own laxity, the UT Electricity Department is putting burden of bills on city residents. “The city residents are already burdened due to electricity bills. The Electricity Department has been increasing all kinds of charges for their own profit,” alleged the BJP.
