Punjab BJP on Friday demanded stern action against the culprits who sacrileged Guru Granth Sahib in a village near Fardikot. Besides, the party also suggested constitution of “peace committees” at district level to analyse law and order problem.
The demands were made by the party delegation, led by State president Kamal Sharma, during its meeting with the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The delegation, comprising Cabinet Ministers Chunni lal Bhagat, Madan Mohan Mittal, Surjit Kumar Jyani, and national secretary Tarun Chugh, among others, apprised the CM about party’s feeling about the issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib by demanding strict action against the culprits.
“There is a great need to remain alert about such anti-national forces and stern action should be taken against the culprits so that in future nobody dares to play with the sentiments of any religion,” the delegation demanded.
Raising the issue before the Chief Minister, Sharma stressed that special efforts should be taken to maintain law and order problem in state in order to ensure peace and communal harmony of the State.
The delegation suggested constituting peace committees at district level. “Such committees should, time to time, analyse the law and order problem in the concerned districts and should be used as feedback channels for the government about any social issue,” he said.
Sharma said that the BJP has always wished for a peaceful atmosphere in Punjab and the party has a proud track record of challenging anti-nation forces and the violence. The BJP has also appealed the political parties to refrain themselves from taking political advantage of the situation.
