BJP accuses Congress workers of 'goondagardi'

Punjab BJP on Wednesday alleged that Congress workers’ “goondagardi” has reached its peak in the State during the past two weeks.

“This time around, the Congress goons haven’t even spared the family of a martyr…latest incident is from Gurdaspur’s Chaksharif village where the Congress goons held hostage the brother of a martyr and thrashed his wife in broad day-light and passed casteist remarks against them,” accused the BJP delegation that approached the National SC, ST Commission on Wednesday.

led by the party’s State secretary Vineet Joshi, the BJP reached the office of national panel along with the victim Hardeep Singh, brother of late Havaldar Kulwant Singh — who was martyred during the terrorist attack on Pathankot Airbase last year.

The delegation urged the Commission’s Regional Director Raj Kumar to initiate stringent action against the accused, which can be easily identified in the CCTV footage, and the concerned police officials.

Expressing their deep anguish and anger over the incident, the BJP leaders described as “unfortunate” the Congress workers’ goondagardi. “Congress workers have now started targeting even the families of martyrs...It is shameful that a martyr’s family has to move from pillar to post to get justice,” said Joshi.

He said: “We today approached the National SC/ST Commission and informed it about the atrocities met out to the victims. We also presented proof to the Commission.”

Meanwhile, showing the CCTV footage to the reporters, victim Hardeep Singh laid out the details of the incident. He said that casteist remarks were made against him and his wife by the attackers, including some women, outside Bhaini Mian Khan police station in Gurdaspur on May 12.
