Birender: Congress will get trounced in Haryana polls

Published on:

After replying to the show-cause notice issued to him, disgruntled Congress leader Chaudhary Birender Singh on Tuesday said the Congress in Haryana will not even get into the double digits in the coming Assembly elections.

Though Singh is not revealing his political plans, sources say he is planning to leave the Congress at Kaithal rally on August 18, in which BJP chief Amit Shah is also scheduled to take part. The rally is being organized by social NGO ‘Yuva Shakti’.

Singh said the Congress is in a bad shape under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The Congress high command had issued a show-cause notice to the Rajya Sabha MP after his meeting with BJP chief Amit Shah on July 29 at Delhi. “There is no crime in meeting Amit Shah”, said Singh in his reply.

He added, “I am not new in politics or the Congress. I have been associated with both for the last 42 years and during this, I have even met INlD chief Om Prakash Chautala. What is wrong in itIJ” he asked.

Jat leader, Birender Singh is the Grandson of towering leader Sir Chhotu Ram and has been a long-time aspirant to the post of Chief Minister of Haryana.

Though, Singh has won five times from Uchana seat in 1977, 82, 91, 96 and 2005 besides being cabinet minister for three terms. He remained on several key posts including member of CWC, general secretary of AICC, in charge of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Yet he could not become the leader of state Congress. He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2010. Besides Birender Singh, former MP from Faridabad and close friend of Hooda, Avtar Singh Bhadana is also set to join INlD after leaving the Congress.
