An Assistant Sub Inspector and a Head constable of UT Police were allegedly beaten up by two motorcyclists at Ramdarbar, on Monday. No arrests have been made so far, said police.
The injured cops, Balbir Singh (ASI) and Ramesh Kumar (Head Constable) were admitted to Sector-16 Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH). Balbir Singh was discharged after first-aid while Ramesh Kumar sustained fracture in his left leg, said doctors.
The incident took place at around 11:45 pm on Monday when the two policemen were on regular patrolling in their area. “Near Vishwakarma temple, we noticed two youths on a motorcycle. On noticing them, Balbir Singh signaled them to stop. Instead of admitting their mistake, they began arguing with Balbir,” said Ramesh.
“When I attempted to save Balbir, one accused attacked me and I fell down. Meanwhile the other accused hit me on my leg,” he added. The accused sped away on their motorcycle, when few persons came to the rescue of the cops. The eyewitnesses informed police control room about the incident and the injured cops were rushed to the GMSH.
Ramesh Kumar said that the accused had disclosed their names as Aakash and Deepa, when Balbir had stopped them. Both the accused were also drunk, he added. A case has been registered and further investigations are under progress.
