Rivals are turning friends. Once an adversary of Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Friday demanded that the Maharaja of Patiala be declared as party’s chief ministerial candidate for 2017 polls.
Describing capt Amarinder as “Sada Kaptan”, Bhattal said that he was “an experienced leader and most successful Chief Minister of Punjab”.
“He should be declared as Chief Ministerial candidate of the party,” she said while adding that Capt Amarinder is not only of Punjab’s captain but leader of Congress’ rank and file.
Bhattal even justified the expulsion of senior Congress leader Jagmeet Brar, once known as her ‘political friend’ saying that “whosoever indulge in indiscipline in the party, must face the same fate”.
Urging the party leaders to stand united, she said: “Time is ripe that all Congress leaders should pose a united face and instead of indulging into political bickering, work hard to ensure win of Congress in 2017.”
Welcoming Congress national vice president Rahul Gandhi’s visit on Saturday, she said that meeting would give an opportunity to the party workers to share their views and grievances with the party high command.
