After successful filling of Bhakra and Pong reservoirs by the Bhakra Beas Management Board, the Board in its monthly Technical Committee Meeting on Tuesday took serious note of the malicious and false propaganda made by All India Power Engineers’ Federation (AIPEF).
Condemning the “time and again” criticism by the AIPEF and its chairman Padamjit Singh at various points of time about its various decisions regarding operation of the Bhakra and Pong reservoirs and writing letters to the various Government functionaries or authorities, the Technical Committee maintained that all the decisions relating to the operation of BBMB reservoirs in the past were “unanimously supported” by the Committee members.
BBMB spokesperson said that the Committee also observed that AIPEF and its chairman have been indulging in “finding faults after the events are over whereas Committee is to take decisions in ‘What if’ scenario”.
The statements made in the past by AIPEF and its chairman have been “found self-contradictory” and the Technical Committee condemned unanimously all such “un-founded criticism”, said the spokesperson.
Since all the decisions taken by the Technical Committee members are “with a combined wisdom and are in the interest of the partner states”, the vexatious statements or correspondence addressed to various government agencies and to the media are solely with a view “to spread false information about the BBMB and Technical Committee members”.
The Technical Committee is the apex body comprising Chief Engineers of Irrigation department of the partner states and Director or Chief Engineers of State Power Utilities, besides the representatives from Central Water Commission, Drainage Department and Agriculture Department of Punjab.
