Salman Bashir, High Commissioner of Pakistan visited Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research where he was briefed about his condition by the doctors attending on him.
After the visit the Pakistan Government has expressed ‘deep concern’ over the matter and added that it was an obvious act of retaliation for the killing of Sarabjit Singh who died at Kot lakhpat jail in lahore after being attacked by the inmates.
According to sources in the PGIMER, the patient is in critical condition and his condition has deteriorated since Sunday. His neurological status continues to be the same without any improvement.
Heavy security has been put in place to avoid any untowardly situation.
Manzoor Ali Memon, press officer at the Pakistan High Commission said that arrangements are being made for Sanaullh’s family in Pakistan to cross the border and visit him in the hospital.
He further added that already we have urged for visa to be granted to the patient’s children and mother who are willing to visit him.
52-year-old Sanaullah, a resident of Sialkot in Pakistan, is serving a life term after being convicted under TADA provisions following his arrest in 1999. He was injured during a scuffle with another inmate in Kot Balwal jail in Jammu and was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Hospital and later rushed to PGIMER in Chandigarh in an air ambulance after doctors said his condition was critical.
The assault came a day after the death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who was brutally attacked by six inmates in lahore's Kot lakhpat jail.
