Ban on jeans for Hry schoolteachers!

The teachers in more than 14,000 Government schools of Haryana have been directed to follow an appropriate dress code in the schools. The new dress code has banned teachers from wearing “jeans” in schools.

The State Directorate of School Education on Friday issued guidelines directing the teachers to follow a formal dress code and not to wear jeans pants in schools and during their visit to offices of education department.

At a time when most of the Government schools in the State are struggling due to lack of basic amenities and students are performing poorly in the exams conducted by Haryana School Education Board, the BJP led State Government seems to be more concerned in imposing dress code for teachers.

In a communiqué sent to all district education officers on Friday, the teachers have been asked to wear formal clothes.

The communiqué said, “It has been observed that the teachers wear jeans pants in schools and during their visit to head offices of education department, which is inappropriate. Kindly ensure not to wear jeans pants and wear formal clothes in schools and during visit to head offices.”

“The letter was sent to all district education officers, headmasters to ensure that the instructions are being followed,” said an official of the Haryana Education Department requesting anonymity.

When asked about the ban on “jeans pants”, the official said that it was observed that no dress code was followed in the schools. Hence, orders were issued to wear formal clothes in the schools.”

The official added, “Teachers are often dressed in jeans and T-shirts which do not look professional. Hence, the new set of guidelines for following a dress code has been issued.”

The opposition has time and again accused the BJP of enforcing the saffron agenda in the state and giving priority to promoting their agenda instead of improving the education system.

Earlier, the Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana had faced sharp criticism from the opposition for inclusion of yoga and Gita in the school curriculum.
