Continuing with its name-changing spree, the Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana on Monday announced renaming of ‘Ballabhgarh’ as ‘Balramgarh’.
Chief Minister Manohar lal announced that Ballabhgarh would now be known as Balramgarh at a public meeting at Ballabhgarh town in Faridabad.
Mool Chand Sharma, MlA Ballabhgarh had raised the demand of changing the name of his constituency.
The name Ballabgarh derived from Balramgarh, 'the fort of Balram Singh’, its founder. Balram Singh was a Jat King of the princely State of Ballabhgarh. This is not the first time that the BJP led Haryana Government has renamed a city, town or a village. After coming to power, the Manohar lal Khattar Government had last year renamed Millennium City Gurgaon as Gurugram based on the historic connection of the city with Guru Dronacharya.
While the opposition had lashed out at State Government for its move to rename Gurgaon, the Government had clarified that the same was done to fulfill long pending demand of the people of the city.
It was stated that Gurgaon district derived its name from the name of Guru Dronacharya; the village was given as gurudakshina to him by his students, the Pandavas, and hence it came to be known as Guru-gram, which in course of time got distorted to Gurgaon.
Known for the promotion of Gita, Saraswati and the cow, the BJP led Haryana Government had also renamed Mustafabad village in Yamunanagar as Saraswati Nagar claiming that old dried-up riverbed of river Saraswati existed near the village. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister on Monday also announced a number of projects for the development of Ballabhgarh and NIT Faridabad Assembly constituencies.
Reacting to demands raised by MlAs, Manohar lal said Faridabad had 1600 tube-wells for drinking water supply, out of which 1,500 were working. He announced a grant of Rs 10 crore for restoration of the remaining 100 tubewells. On the demand made by the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gujjar, the Chief Minister announced reconstruction of the dilapidated bypass of Faridabad.
This bypass would benefit the residents of four assemblies of Faridabad district. Starting from Badarpur border, this bypass passes through four Assembly areas and goes up to village Kail on NH-2, he added.
