Bajwa opposes mass transfer, seeks immediate solution to doctors' grievances

Condemning the mass transfers of the PCMS doctors, the Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday sought immediate solution to the grievances of health staff including doctors and para-medical staff working in rural hospitals.

“Total chaos prevails in Government departments and employees are forced to go on strike due to non-redressal of their demands,” Bajwa alleged in his official statement. Questioning the rationale behind the large scale transfers of doctors, he alleged that number of senior doctors have already resigned after being “ill-treated”. Bajwa, in fact, asked the Chief Minister to inquire into allegations of wide spread corruption in health department. Bajwa dismissed the plea of SAD-BJP coalition that mass transfers made to provide services to common men within radius of 10 kms.

“About 1000 posts of doctors are lying vacant and the State Government is not taking steps to fill the vacancies. Mass transfers are made to cover up Government’s failure in recruitment of doctors, and specialist doctors are not keen to join the health department due to unfavorable working conditions,” he added. Bajwa demanded to roll back all 523 transfers of doctors and address the demand of special cadre for specialist doctors.
