A day after the Punjab Congress issued show-cause notice to its senior leader and former MP Jagmeet Brar for his “irresponsible and highly undesirable utterances”, he asked the State party chief Partap Singh Bajwa to “stick to the book”.
Brar, a former Congress Working Committee member, said that Bajwa has made “a technical error” by writing to him on behalf of the party’s general secretary in-charge Shakeel Ahmed, who is authorised to issue him a notice.Notice was issued to Brar by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president following a direction from AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed.
Former Faridkot MP Brar created a flutter by asking party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to take a break in the wake of the party’s worst-ever debacle in lS polls.Brar had also stated that all general secretaries of AICC should have resigned after the worst drubbing of the Congress and the party mantle be handed over to a new set of leaders.Responding to notice, Brar told Bajwa that “only Congress general secretary in-charge Punjab affairs can issue me a notice of clarification regarding my statements to the Press. By writing to me on behalf of Shakeel Ahmed, you have committed a technical error”.
He maintained that the issues raised by him “are of national importance and for the future of the Congress organisation”.Brar asked Bajwa of restraining his PPCC office bearers and MlAs “not to go to the Press without studying and analysing my statements in the context of larger interest of the party”.“My leader Sonia Gandhi has appointed you the PCC president and I respect her decision. Please stick to the book and constitution of the party,” he added.
Bajwa, a day before, issued a notice to Brar seeking an explanation for his conduct by August 5. Bajwa had pointed that Brar’s statement was irresponsible and highly undesirable especially when the party was seriously discussing the causes and remedies of the recent setback in the lS polls.
