The Punjab Government has ended career stagnation among officials of the state Water Supply and Sanitation Department by ordering promotions at all levels during one month.
With this, State Rural Development and Panchayat and Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Sunday exhorted them to work with total dedication and commitment by adopting pro-people attitude.
“No decision has been taken in this regard by the previous Government despite such promotions being due over the years,” he said while appealing to the officials at every level to provide the best of services to the people and complete the targets assigned to them.
In all, three officials have been promoted as Chief Engineers, seven as Superintending Engineers, three as Executive Engineers and 21 as the Sub-Divisional Engineers. These promotions had been held up for more than two years thereby affecting the functioning of the Department.
Bajwa said that 24 junior engineers were also being promoted to the next rank within this month.
As many as 17 SDEs, selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission recently, have joined the Department during the last few days while seven more would be reporting for duty in the coming days, said Bajwa adding that this has enabled the Department to streamline its functioning.
The Department has fixed the target of providing 24-hour water supply and toilets in every house in the villages in a phased manner within a year, he said.
Bajwa commended the Department secretary Jaspreet Talwar and Director Ashwani Kumar for resolving problems of the employees within a month by talking to their organisations.
