Beginning his Statewide tour of Assembly constituencies from historic Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday gave a clarion call to the party workers to roll up their sleeves to win 2014 Parliament elections with thumping majority.

At the same time, Bajwa assured the party cadre that the State Congress leadership was “fully united” and ready to face the challenge of impending lok Sabha elections — “the decisive battle”.

The statement of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president assumes significance amidst the allegations of dissension and differences in the party,

especially the State leadership.

“Congress leadership is fully united and is all ready to face the challenge of lok Sabha elections. Party workers should gear up to expose the misdeeds of the SAD-BJP regime and propagate the achievements of the UPA Government at the Centre,” said Bajwa while addressing a party workers meeting.

Bajwa said that it was time that people of Punjab should wake up to reality and defeat the communal and opportunistic alliance of SAD-BJP to secure better future for the State. “Punjab is at the brink of social and economic disaster and also facing serious threat to law and order. SAD-BJP leaders are bent to disturb the hard earned peace. The alliance Government is harbouring the criminals and drug mafia to serve their vested interests,” he added.

Bajwa also alleged the SAD-BJP alliance to indulge in booth capturing, violence against Opposition leaders and workers during the recently concluded panchayat elections.

Hailing Congress-led UPA Government, PPCC president added that the Centre has launched many welfare schemes for the poor and people belonging to down trodden sections.

“Food Security Act brought at the initiative of AICC president Sonia Gandhi is a major step towards making India hunger-free. Opposition parties including BJP and its alley SAD, which are anti-people, are opposing this law. But, the Congress is determined to pass this Bill in the Parliament Session beginning on August 5,” he added.

Praising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Bajwa said that he had given liberally to Punjab including extension of Kolkatta-Delhi eastern corridor up to Amritsar, which will also pass through Fatehgarh Sahib, ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar districts, along with three new low cost airports at ludhiana, Jalandhar and Ferozepur.

Alleging State Government of making false claims on development, Bajwa also accused the SAD-BJP coalition for cheating people during previous Assembly elections with false promises.
