Strongly condemning the brutal police lathicharge on peacefully protesting ETT teachers in Amritsar on Sunday, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday demanded immediate and unconditional withdrawal of cases registered against them.
“letting loose police repression against peaceful protesters is against all canons of democratic norms and it betrayed anti-people attitude of the CM Parkash Singh Badal and his Government,” said Bajwa.
Sikhs got agitated when told by security men to remove their turbans for check-up at international airports abroad but in Punjab, the policemen were showing total disrespect to turbans and this had not happened for the first time. Supporting the demands of ETT teachers regarding their absorption into regular cadre, Bajwa said that there was shortage of teachers in Punjab and education system was in shambles but the State’s indifferent played havoc with future of our children.
Peaceful agitation is the right of every citizen but the Badal Government had adopted dictatorial attitude.
