Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday demanded minimum compensation of Rs5 lakh each to the next of kin of those who were killed in bus accident near Behram on Friday. He also demanded Rs50,000 as compensation for the critically injured passengers also free treatment for the injured. Bajwa on Saturday visited Dhahan Kaleran hospital where the injured have been admitted. In one of the worst bus accidents in recent times in the State, 15 persons were killed when a speeding private bus went out of control and hit a tree on Friday.

Bajwa said it was unfortunate that despite the increasing incidence of deaths in road accidents in the State, the Badal Government had failed to come up with any traffic management plan. He asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to install speed regulator equipments on all the State Highways to ensure that these fatal incidents don’t take place again.

He later also visited to those affected by the gas leakage from a tanker who have been admitted to hospitals in ludhiana. Bajwa said it was shocking to know that there was no Fire Brigade service available in Doraha which made this incident more tragic. People kept on waiting for the Fire services for more than 2 hours. He appealed to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that instead of spending money in Sangat Darshan programmes, he should ensure at least 1 fire brigade in every Municipality. He also demanded Rs10 lakh as compensation for the victims who lost their life in this incident and Rs1 lakh compensation for the injured.
