Bajwa berates Modi Govt on sugar price hike

Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday slammed the Narendra Modi Government for the proposed hike in the price of sugar which would hit the common man badly.

“Modi has already started repaying corporate lobby which has funded his party’s election campaign,” said Bajwa. “Coming closely on the hike in rail fare, the hike in sugar price would be too bitter a pill to be swallowed by the common people who had been misled into voting for Narendra Modi by selling them the false dream of achhe din (good days),” said Bajwa.

He pointed that BJP government was following those very policies for which it had been attacking the UPA government for being “anti-people” and having failed to control unbridled inflation. “There is no indication that Modi government has some original road map for common man which can lead to dreamland about which illusion had been created during election campaign,” he said.

He said that sugar was one of the basic needs of every person, including the poorest of the poor and any hike would just be unbearable for these vast sections of society.

Bajwa called upon Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to make his stand clear on such a sensitive issue as his party was a partner in the NDA government. “Badal should tell the people whether he also was with the corporates or with them as it involved clash of interests,” he added.

Bajwa pointed that Shiv Sena, also NDA’s partner, had taken a stand against the rail fare hike. “let Badal show guts and take a pro-people stand by putting pressure on the Union government to roll back the rail fare hike and maintain status quo on the sugar price,” he said.
