Haryana Government on Sunday claimed that the villagers in Badkhalsa of district Sonepat have ended their protest and have assured to allow their land to be acquired for the construction of Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) and Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressways.

“As a result of the concerted efforts made by the Haryana Government to persuade residents of village Badkhalsa to allow their land to be acquired, the villagers have ended their protest and have assured to assist in the construction of the road,” said an official spokesman.

He said that the villagers had been protesting the acquisition of the land of village Badkhalsa by the previous State Government for construction of road and roundabout of KGP and KMP expressways, since November 17, 2005.

As the villagers were not ready to give up their land, the construction work had to be halted, said he.

The spokesman further said that after the present State Government came into power, the construction of the road was restarted and pace of work was accelerated. On April 19, 2016, Chief Minister Manohar lal, held a meeting with the villagers, where he had offered the villagers land in other locations in lieu of the disputed land. He had also instructed the District Administration to comply with these orders, said he.

Following this, Deputy Commissioner, K Makrand Pandurang, held talks with the villagers and offered land or enhanced compensation in lieu of the disputed land. While 70 farmers were paid compensation, land at other locations would be provided to the remaining 212 farmers, for which the process has already been started, added the spokesman.
