Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday called upon the people of the State to fight against the evils of “drugs, female feticide, dowry” among others, afflicting the State.

“The festivals give us message of togetherness and brotherhood and on this day, we should vow to together fight against drugs, female feticide, dowry and other social evils,” said Badal while addressing a congregation at Dussehra celebrations – the festival which signifies victory of good over evil.

Participating in the event organized by City Welfare and Cultural Club, constituted with the inspiration of late Surinder Kaur Badal, Badal set the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran on fire by pressing a button.

Badal, congratulating the people on the occasion of Vijaydashmi, said that Punjabis were especially filled with pride over Dussehra as the Ramayan was written in Punjab, on the land of holy city Amritsar.

‘The festivities of Dussehra inspire us to remain grounded, keep our anger under control and stay away from hate….These three factors become the reasons for decline of even the most intelligent person,” he said, adding that festivities also teach us to remain with brotherhood.

Badal added that the festivals not only become sources of our inspiration, but also helps us know the rich cultural heritage we have inherited. “The true essence of Dusshera lies in fighting against injustice, evil and egos with love and secularism,” he said while calling upon the people of Punjab to soak in the rich history and take Punjab to unprecedented heights.
