The Punjab Government on Friday set December 15 as deadline to cover all households in the State under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY).
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal issued instructions to all the officers for covering all households under PMJDY by December 15, so as to enable Punjab to be the first State in the country to achieve this target.
The Government has designated Principal Secretary, Finance as the mission director for this scheme.
“A detailed day-to-day program plan has been chalked out to meet the deadline of December 15 this year,” said the spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office.
Badal, who had launched the scheme from ludhiana on August 28, also directed his Cabinet Ministers to monitor their allocated districts and ensure that no household is
left out.
“Deputy Commissioners have been issued detailed guidelines to ensure that the scheme was implemented in ‘Mission Mode’ in a time-bound manner,” the spokesperson said, adding that daily report by the convener of State level Bankers’ Committee (SlBC) would be submitted to the Mission Director, which would be reviewed every week by the Chief Secretary.
Chief Minister would be personally reviewing the progress every fortnight, as the financial inclusion programme was a gateway to empowerment of people, particularly women and people belonging to below poverty line, he added.
“Necessary directions to all Cabinet Ministers and Chief Parliamentary Secretaries have been issued to monitor the progress at their own level,” the spokesperson said.
Under PMJDY, each household would have at least one bank account which would be opened with zero balance. The bank account would provide basic banking services with overdraft
facility of Rs5,000 after six months of opening the account.
