Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday issued instructions to cover all households in the state under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana by December 15.
As directed by the Chief Minister, Principal Secretary Finance held video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners and bank officers to review the progress of the scheme, informed the official spokesperson.
As many as 20,328 camps have been organized by the banks for opening of accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in Punjab. A total of 22,21,830 bank accounts have already been opened.
“Deputy Commissioners and the concerned bank are jointly conducting survey of all families in their respective districts to ascertain the number of families who do not have banking facilities for better targeting of the scheme,” said the spokesperson. He added that the survey is likely to be completed by October 31, 2014, and the accounts of all unbanked households are likely to be opened.
