Punjab Congress on Sunday alleged the Parkash Singh Badal government of shielding culprits in the case of attack on Sikh preacher Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale.
Taking strong exception to what he described as nefarious design of the Badal government to shield the real culprits behind attack on Baba Dhadrianwale, Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi said that it was known as in whose name vehicles and weapons were registered that have been used in the crime.
“Now after the revelations, the Chief Minister Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal are visiting the preacher just to gain publicity and tell the people of Punjab about their seriousness of the matter. But the story is other way around,” claimed Channi.
He blamed the Badals to intentionally spoiling the state’s peaceful atmosphere for their personal motives. “The move to target the deras and preachers are designed by the criminal elements who are having patronage from the ruling government. This is the very recent attack after the one on the Namdhari sect near ludhaina,” said Channi.
He said that the police has till now failed to come to any conclusion due to political pressure and alignment of the ruling party with the one section of the Namdhari sect.
Channi pointed out that Punjab has been a classic example of dismal failure of the police to investigate any of the important case beginning with the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari.
“SIT had been constituted in several cases but nothing had come out. In case of the latest attack, the culprits yesterday went on record before the TV cameras owning up everything and the disclosure made by them was a pointer to the person who could be behind this action. Not only that, these people had also issued threats to resort to similar action against those opposing Damdami Taksal,” said Channi.
