Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday envisioned meritorious schools as harbingers of development and prosperity in the State by providing quality education to the bright students from economically weaker sections.
Badal, addressing the gathering after inaugurating meritorious school, said that the State was blessed with students who despite belonging to economically weaker strata of society were excellent in their studies.
“The State Government has opened these schools with a sole aim to tap their enormous potential to full extent. This model of schooling is need of the hour to ensure that students from economically weaker sections are enormously benefitted,” he said.
Badal said that the sole aim of setting up these schools was to provide free quality education and hostel facilities for all brilliant students of the government schools, who had scored 80 percent or above marks in matriculation examinations.
This school has been established on the pattern of already existing seven such meritorious schools at SAS Nagar (Mohali), Patiala, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Amritsar, ludhiana and Talwara (Hoshiarpur) adding that two more schools in Sangrur and Ferozepur would also be dedicated to people very soon.
These schools were not only imparting academic education but also providing coaching to students for competition exams, communication skills and others so as to compete at par with their peers from public and convent schools, he added.
